Comments on Assignment #1

I understand what the assignment is but somehow I feel like it will be tough to decide what kind of question to use to investigate the poem we choose. Also would it be fine if tow people have the same question or some type of similarities in there question? How will coming up with a specific question help with conducting a deep analysis on one of the spoken word pieces that we choose? While working on this first assignment will there be peer-editing between each other in class or one-to-one conferences with the professor?

  1. I personally think that this class is going to teach me more about critical thinking and how to understand the sociology in today’s world. It can also help me to open up as a lady coming from a different culture with strict traditions.

  2. Wonderful questions to be raising, Sujey.

We will largely be conducting peer reviews in class, though there will be some working at home via reading and commenting on your classmates’ work. I will also be responding to each draft along the way, and you can always reach out to schedule a one-on-one if need be.

Regarding a research question, it’s totally fine if more than one person works with a similar or even the same question: as for developing the question, we’ll be doing a lot of that together in class on Monday. As we’re looking to make our rough drafts more specific, we’ll be looking for guiding questions that kind of accidentally emerge from our drafts, and we’ll use them to shape how we move forward with our rewriting and edits.

Please feel free to let me know if you have more questions, either by commenting here or sending me an email!!
