This first speech that we did this semester was definitely an experience. You can tell everyone really put thought into the object they bought. I thought maybe I could have talked a little more about my object because I don’t think I put much detail into what the object meant to me. Some people mentioned the back story of their object and I wish I had done that too. I am glad though that everyone else had bought unique items and not just anything common that doesn’t mean anything.
Talking about yourself in front of a room full of strangers is a lot more nerve racking than I imagined. If I could do the speech over again, I would spend more time memorizing it. I thought that I would be able to get up in front of the class and have my main talking points and improvise easily, but my nerves got in the way. There were a lot of thing I wanted to say and did not.
I was really impressed with a lot of the speakers. Many of them seemed to have a natural knack for speaking in public. It was wonderful how people shared things that meant so much to them.
