Debates: Identity and Change

Professor’s Note: We ended our term with a discussion of intersectional politics and its influence of the psychological, social, and economic well-being of marginalized groups. The papers presented are authored by Bo Yean Hong and Kenneth Littrell. Bo discusses the role of place identity in Black people through an analysis of art and experience. Ken discusses the ability for lesbian women to harness the erotic, a power force that produces women’s satisfaction in life. With scholars such as WEB DuBois, Kimberly Crenshaw, Frantz Fanon, and Audre Lorde as our guide, we engaged in what world people can make when harnessing on their positionality to produce change.
