.With this story, Junot Díaz is trying to make the reader aware of the connections between race, ethnicity and socio-economic class in New Jersey.

.With irony, Junot Díaz is displaying in this story the racial, ethnic and gender stereotypes embedded in suburban New Jersey.

“Alma”

.Through this story, Díaz is challenging the stereotypes about Latinas’ education level, cultural tastes, and mobility.

. In Díaz’s story, the romantic and sexual (mis) adventures foster Yunior’s writing and skills as a storyteller.

. Connecting this story by Díaz to previous ones, a reader could argue that Yunior followed the romantic and masculine template promoted by his father.
