Kimberly’s mixtape blog

When I was about 15 years old, I was living in Brazil. At that time, I liked different types of music, but I was not that into any specific genre –well, yet. As I was growing older, I began to enjoy soft, acoustic, alternative, and pop-rock music – and sometimes jazz. Right before moving to the US, I was going through some rough times. I did not really know what to do with my life. I was scared about leaving my family, my friends, and all the people that I had built a relationship with behind to pursue my dreams, even though they were all very supportive of it. “Ele Continua Sendo Bom” by Paulo Cesar Baruk talks about the meaning of trusting in God even when life is difficult or not going as expected. This was very helpful to me as I was going through that phase. I remember the power that that song had and still has on me. It made me stronger and it shaped me into who I am today. Its melody, its rhythm, and its lyrics – specially its lyrics – bring me to some sort of state of mind where I find peace, a peace that helps me when I am down or stressed out, or even when I am okay and just want to relax and chill. I could easily say that this is one of my favorite songs, not only because it sounds good to my ears, but because it can make me go back in time – to a time where life was neither easy nor pleasant – and realize that this is the beauty of life and living. Realizing that life is more than just happiness and joy is one of the greatest things one could experience. Experiencing difficulties is also part of life and it also shapes us into who we are. And now, It is up to us – and I mean it when I say it – to make the best out of it.

  1. What a powerful song! It can be so hard to find peace in a time like the one you went through. I really like how you described what happened, and how you keep persevering, and that this song helped you do that. It’s amazing how a song like this can inspire both peace and the drive to make the world better!

  2. Your post is a moving exploration of how this song relates to your experience of moving to a new country, but also in how it continues to provide you a sense of rootedness to Brazil.
