Pre-draft Assignment #1

The poem I’ve chosen to analyze is “Ebonics 101” by Steven Willis. I’m stuck between doing a short story, a drawing, or sign/poster. If I do a short story, it will depict the poem in a realistic situation that describes what Steven is portraying about language and history. If I do a drawing, my drawing will show the Ebonics and slang Steven speaks about and the fact that he’s rhetorically teaching “the man” about the language. If I create a poster/sign it will describe the Ebonics 101 lessons that Steven gave in his poem.

Assignment #1 Expectations

1.What grade you are aiming for?
what specific things, according to the grading contract?
I am always going to be aiming for the best grade, which is an A of course. Also I want to be as creative as possible.
2.What are you are going to do to earn that grade?
I am going to work a even pace so that I not only get the work done, but I get a good grade and that it’s creative and not sloppy.
3.How much time you are expecting to put in; what kind of effort you expect to put into your peer reviews?
When I do peer reviews I try to be the most honest that I can be. So that means I put all my effort into the peer reviews. Also, not just to get me a grade, but to help my classmates around me enhance their writing. I expect to put in full time for all my assignments because usually I wait until the last minute and it becomes not my best work. I want to work at an even pace and meet all of my due dates with work in hand.
4.What kind of help you expect from me?what format you are thinking about creating your assignment in?
I am never bashful when it comes to needing help. So if I need help I’ll definitely let you know. And I haven’t chosen yet, but I am either going to do something from the visual, written, or performance section.
5.Which spoken word poem from our class you might want to analyze?
I think I’m going to analyze both of them, but I will choose the one that I feel I can connect with more.
