Reading the news regularly and following current events will greatly benefit you in this course since we will be discussing and analyzing contemporary political issues throughout the semester. Here are some suggestions for how to keep up with the news.
- All CUNY students, faculty, and staff have free access to the New York Times. The New York Times, like many other newspapers, has a mobile app.
- You can sign-up for short daily briefings that take 5 minutes to read or listen to from a variety of sources including the New York Times, NPR, and Reuters.
- The New York Times also has a 5 day a week, 20-minute podcast called The Daily that discusses a current issue in more depth while giving a run-down of other important news.

Single Stop offers the following FREE, confidential, one-on-one services:
- Benefit Screening for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Women, Infants and Children (WIC)
- Food Pantry available every day in Room C-107
- Financial Counseling – advice on credit and debt issues, budget management and savings, access free credit scores and report
- Legal Counseling – help with housing eviction, public assistance, immigration, custody battles, unemployment benefit denials
- Tax Assistance – preparation on campus (January-April), tax clinic referrals, tax credits
