Met Visit Doodle Poll
Follow this link and mark which dates/times you could possibly make for our proposed visit to the Met’s Instruments of Rock’n’Roll exhibit: https://doodle.com/poll/cw46iw24ddt9b3y7
I put in 1-hour increments for all the time the Met’s open on these dates: say yes to any time that would work and we’ll find a date that works for most (if not all) of us. If you can’t make any, leave that as a comment. If you just don’t want to come, that’s okay too.
If you come, you can also write a blog post about your experience (it would be interesting to focus your post on just one instrument, but other ideas are welcome to) and this will count as extra credit. Of course, you’re under no obligation to do so, whether you join us or not. Please, if possible, RSVP with your possible days/times by Monday, May 6.
Mixtape Blog (3/22)
Careful readers of the syllabus will notice that on 3/22 we have no class, as I will be away at a conference. In lieu of class, then, we will have a “mixtape blog” assignment. Here’s what that entails:
- Choose one of the songs from your music mixtape.
- Write a 300-500 word “close listening” blog (that is, a careful critical analysis). In other words, demonstrate how the song makes meaning and elicits feeling. You might make reference to the song’s lyrics (in particular, their literary elements), the “sound” of the song (for example, instrumentation, tone, rhythm, and so on) and, if the music video is relevant, visual imagery.
- Post your blog here by Friday, March 22 @ midnight.
- Before our March 29 class session, leave a 2-3 sentence comment on a classmate’s blog post.
Posting your blog on time will count as “attendance” for the missed class session.
