  1. I decided to pick the topic of “Economic justice” and the policy that states “A progressive reconstruction of tax codes at the local, state and federal levels to ensure a radical and sustainable redistribution of wealth.” And the problem sentence of “Across the country, low-income people, disproportionately black and other people of color, pay proportionally more in state and local taxes than the wealthy: in the ten states with the most regressive tax structures, the poorest fifth pay up to seven as much in the state and local taxes and fees as the wealthiest residents, as a percentage of their income.” This quote shows how for many centuries we are still facing economic inequality and economic discrimination just because they aren’t born wealthy or white. Many people have to struggle and work daily with hard and long hours, bad conditions, and minimum wage; and these people still have to pay for taxes and even a higher percentage and amount than the wealthy and the white. those who are wealthy with high jobs have to pay less than the poor who have to work their life away just to pay high taxes and still not get the same opportunities and advantages as the wealthy. I believe the policy I chose would actually help the wealthy because it will make sure the poor, black and other people of color and race will no longer pay higher taxes and even lower than the wealthy, and would help distribute money equally for everyone since it’s not fair for the poor and blacks to have to work more and harder and have to pay more taxes than the wealthy.

  2. According to The Movement for Black Lives it says “We demand that the government repair the harms that have been done to Black communities in the form of reparations and targeted long-term investments. We also demand a defunding of the systems and institutions that criminalize and cage us. This document articulates our vision of a fundamentally different world.” I choose this quote because Black people deserve to have housing and investments because we are all equal no matter the color or race and they are hard workers and even more then others. They also should have low income tax depending on their status. They have passed through a lot and now they should be paid for those harms.Reconstruction was thanks to them that worked really hard on construction.

  3. The policy that I recommend from the section End the War on Black People is to end the criminalization and dehumanization of Black youth. This is the root of the problem, for any other economic action to exist, there must be an end for youth racial discrimination. Here is where everything starts to go wrong, by hurting the youth.

  4. The policy recommendation I am choosing is “An End to Money Bail, Mandatory Fines, Fees, Court Surcharges, and “Defendant Funded” Court Proceedings” because it has all to do about the stereotype that supposedly some races are always viewed as criminals because of their race, immigration status, gender or sexuality. If this policy ends then those 42 billion dollars used to incarcerate non-felony defendants can help better the same lives of the non-felony defendants or others who need it.Big amounts of people are targeted homeless, queer, trans, immigrants, black men and women which is a big problem because those are just excuses to send them either to jail forever because they cant pay bail or back to their country for a crime that isn’t even that serious while white people aren’t being denied that bail while committing the same illegal action.

  5. Visiting the website ” The Movement for Black Lives” and reading “End the War on Black People” made me realize how much revenue and income our criminal justice system makes from incarcerating young black individuals as well as other races. As we know the rates for incarcerations are higher for young black and hispanic people, and our criminal justice system profits by taking advantage and putting them behind bars for certain crimes they did not commit. According to The Movement for Black Lives, when these individuals get arrested they are expected to pay for bail money, mandatory fines, fees, court surcharges and “defendant funded” court proceedings. This is where our judges and crinimal justice system profits from and treat it like a business. Relating this back to “The Racial Wage” W.E.B. Du Bois claimed black individuals did not have the freedom to express their rights and were treated unfairly by society, therefore limiting their ability to contribute any of their ideas towards their society at that time period. Black people still face many issues today that W.E.B. Du Bois discussed in “The Racial Wage” therefore, I believe putting more emphasis towards the movement for black lives would help tackling these racial injustice issues.

  6. According to the article” The Movement For Black Lives, Economic Justice”
“Across the country, low-income people, disproportionately Black and other people of color, pay proportionally more in state and local taxes than the wealthy: In the ten states with the most regressive tax structures, the poorest fifth pay up to seven times as much in state and local taxes and fees as the wealthiest residents, as a percentage of their income”.
I chose this quote because how poor people get lower wages for their work, on the other side poor people are also paying more taxes even when they are not making a lot of money where white only pay taxes according to their income percentage. I feel bad for low income families because they are not being treated like other white people.

  7. The economic justice article really stood out to me because of the significant gap the low income, middle class people pay in taxes compared to the wealthy. As stated in the article the ten states with the most regressive tax structures, the poorest fifth pay up to seven times as much in state and local taxes and fees as the wealthiest residents, as a percentage of their income. Because of these high taxes it makes it that much harder for the low income people to advance financially and ensures them to stay in the same position they are in for basically all of their lives, and in return the wealthy stay rich.

  8. According to The Movement for Black Lives it says “We demand that the government repair the harms that have been done to Black communities in the form of reparations and targeted long-term investments. We also demand a defunding of the systems and institutions that criminalize and cage us. This document articulates our vision of a fundamentally different world.” I chose this quote because I believe that color skin people should have the same equality as all of the rest of the people white, latinos and etc. it also show the the explanation of the they should low the income due to the status of the person.

  9. “The End to the Use of Past Criminal History to Determine Eligibility for Housing, Education, Licenses, Voting, Loans, Employment, and Other Services and Needs”

This is a problem that covers a lot to talk about, but the clearest points are simple, although we live in a developed world where rights are being applied equally, in some places they are not enforced. Unfortunately, we live in a society where the color white still predominates, that is why I decided to take this point. I have witnessed how in castings, work meetings or even for a simple opinion do not count that of people of color, but those of people with lighter skin. How can you maintain a healthy, stable and balanced relationship where you point more to a light skin tone instead of a bright mind? It is not possible, that is why in some sectors worldwide the population of color is in low income because an equal work ethic is not implemented, where everything is judged by appearance and as a consequence there are no roads for a racial diversification of work, but yes for a total control of the white skin.

  10. “Together, we demand an end to the wars against Black people. We demand that the government repair the harms that have been done to Black communities in the form of reparations and targeted long-term investments. We also demand a defunding of the systems and institutions that criminalize and cage us.”

I choose this quote because it is the root of the black lives matter campaign, the whole purpose is to push to put an end to the wars against African Americans . This quote is very powerful because it’s the huge problem that is taking place today and have been taking place since slavery. A few simple sentences yet a gigantic issue that is causing so much harm towards the Africans Americans community. All we want is to have equality and for those in higher power to fix what they’ve destroyed for us. However, the war still goes and it’s sad because no one knows when it will all end. All we can do is fight and black lives matter is a great way to do that.

  11. The policy recommendation I chose was #7 from Economic Justice. Which states “Through tax incentives, loans and other government directed resources, support the development of cooperative or social economy networks to help facilitate trade across and in Black communities globally. All aid in the form of grants, loans or contracts to help facilitate this must go to Black led or Black supported networks and organizations as defined by the communities.” The reason I chose this policy recommendation was because in order to ensure that the global communities are getting proper aid is better if is led by people who might have a better understanding of the communities and their people to prevent issues with communication and to prevent any kind of misconduct or unfairness that could take place in the process if led by anyone else that could be unsupportive of these communities.

  12. I decided to choose “ End the War on Black people” the part that says “An end to the mass surveillance of Black communities”. Today technology is a source that helps police work because through this system, police can know more about the criminal’s location, facial image and cell phone data. However, this method violates the first and fourth amendment rights of black people even though it can be more effective. We need to remember that the First Amendment says that people have freedom of expression and the fourth amendment says that people can have privacy. So it is clear that when police use this technology they are violating the rights of black people. According to the previous information I am agree with this quote: “Federal and state legislation should require the use of a warrant in the application of a technology that captures the data of an individual or sets of people and disclose what data is being captured”. I think that police can not avoid the benefits that technology offers because those methods helps to enforcement the law. However, the police can not use technology for violate the right of people. I understand that technology is a new form that police implement for enforcement of law. So the better form that government can control the abuse of technology is that constitution has reform in which the use of technology through the police or any member of research to what extent you can use the technology. For example the constitution can establish that police can use the technology to make an investigation with warrant.

  13. I decided to pick the policy recommendation of “End the War on Black people” my quote is “part of marginalized and often-poor communities, undocumented and LGBTQ people are overly-represented among those targeted for extermination by the government through the death penalty. Additionally, many people on death row have mental illnesses, cognitive limitations, severe trauma histories, and prior criminal records, often directly related to racial bias and poverty. And most women on death row are there in connection with the death of an abusive partner.” I chose this quote, because there is some truth in it, there a lot of poor people living traumas, terrible condition of life, or passing through hard situation and normally tend to drugs in order to forget about what’s going on. the people with drugs addiction and traumas history meet with people with who have passed or are passing through the same problem, this people could react aggressive in some situation, and harm their love one. These people don’t get any treatment, because of they economy conditions. The government separate this people from everyone else, and send them to prison for minor offences instead of them then to a psychiatric hospital to get the treatment they deserve.

  14. According to “The Movement for Black Lives it says: with descendants of African people all over the world in an ongoing call and struggle for reparations for the historic and continuing harms of colonialism and slavery. We also recognize and honor the rights and struggle of our Indigenous family for land and self-determination.” African American are being untreated right and taken there right, and they are saying they should be recognized and respect them equally

  15. I have chosen the, End war on black people policy from the movement for Black Lives platform because, I agree that black people are treated unfairly and discriminatory. Also, I agree with many of the points stated in the policy that I’ve personally observed the difference in the way that black students are treated compared to other students. They had to go through more of the negative elements of life than non-blacks. In a way that is unfair and unjust. Especially in schools and the legal system treat black people in a biased manner. In addition, most of the school suspensions are black students but these suspensions are arbitrary. As it says “Each year more than three million students are suspended from school” “Black students are denied an opportunity to learn and punished for routine child and adolescent behaviors that their white peers are often not disciplined for at all”, So if a white student violates the same school rule that got the black students suspended, she/he most likely would not be suspended. This shows the tremendous disparity between suspension of white students and students of color.

  16. I agree with the policy End War on Black People from the movement black lives matter. I decided to chose this policy because even to this day I seen black people get treated unfair. like the other day I witnessed a white lady got up to give her seat to another elderly white lady but did not give her seat up to an actual black lady with a cane. It is just so ridiculous after all these years people are still being this way. I think people need to understand that if we cut a white person and a black person, the same color blood they are both gonna to have.

  17. For my response I have chosen to go over the Economic Justice tab because I feel it has a high form of impact on the Black/Low-Income community. The article reads “Federal and state job programs that specifically target the most economically marginalized Black people, and compensation for those involved in the care economy. Job programs must provide a living wage and encourage support for local workers centers, unions, and Black-owned businesses which are accountable to the community.” Which is number two on the list. I believe having a job that provides a steady income and one that is reasonanble to keep because it would provide to the Black community stabilty within income and we support Black-owned businesses instead of chains that dont help our communities grow.

  18. I do agree with ending the war on Black people, mainly due to the many issues I’ve seen within the Black community that stems from the interactions they have with other races and even themselves through the things that they do go through. As seeing the conditions they are subjugated to on a regular basis is inhumane and unfair.

  19. The Movement for Black Lives activists state their grievances towards the certain laws and policies that seem to target the Black community. To be more specific in terms of how law enforcement, policies, and politicians oppress that oppress the Black community. The policies reform introduced by the activists include but not limited to; an end of monetary bail, capital punishment, and removal of police from schools, the end of schools zero tolerance policies. They proposed a way that the funds can be used instead for those programs that would be obsolete to restore better programs to help people such as buying school products and services. These activists would propose this to congress and the senate to make all these reforms. I completely agree with all but the police removal from schools is something to debate about. At a school level the zero tolerance policy should end with children there should be some sort of an abundance of patience towards their activities.

  20. The Movement for Black lives is a platform that highlights the struggles black men and women have endured with slavery. The organization has a set list of reasonable demands, one being reparations. Their website states the United States government as responsible for past and continuous harms, from slavery to mass incarceration. Racism is embedded in the history of the United States Constitution and government. While progress has been made for black and men women, the government must take responsibility for its damages and pay due reparations.
